Mitja Kos is Head of the Department of Social Pharmacy and a professor for social pharmacy at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Pharmacy, Slovenia.
The focus of his scientific and professional activities are health technology assessment, comparative effectiveness and optimization of medicine use. At the Faculty of pharmacy, University of Ljubljana he has built a nationally recognised reference centre for pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology and evidence based pharmacy practice. He has been the coordinator of more than 50 projects and is a co-author of more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
He is the immediate past board member and Chairman of Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe, which aims to research and develop pharmacist’s contributions to the care of individuals in order to optimize medicines use and improve health outcomes. With a similar function, he is also involved in the work of the expert group within Slovene Chamber of pharmacy that assures the development, implementation and quality of medication review services in clinical practise.
At the Faculty of pharmacy, he is one of the leaders and key promotors of digital transformation, being either at the level of faculty management, pharmacy curricula or pharmacy practice and services. He focuses on big data, clinical decision support systems, mHealth and artificial intelligence. Currently, he serves as a guest editor for a special issue of the national journal of the Slovenian Pharmaceutical Society on the topic of Digital transformation in pharmacy.
In the past years, he has also served as a member of the Health Council at the Ministry of Health of the Republic Slovenia and as a member of two expert commissions at the Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of the Republic Slovenia: one focusing on the evaluation of clinical trials and the other on drug prices.
He is an honorary life member of the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation. For his past work, he has received Minařik recognition award from the Slovenian Pharmaceutical Society. He is also an honorary life member of the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe. |
