Tihomir Tomašič was born in 1981 in Novo mesto, Slovenia. He studied at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana and successfully finished with his diploma work entitled ˝Synthesis of 3, 4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3-ones derivatives possessing potential antithrombotic activity˝ in April 2006 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Danijel Kikelj. From November 2006 he was employed at the Chair of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy as a young researcher under supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Lucija Peterlin Mašič. In 2007 he got a Grant for Partial Funding of Slovene PhD Students for Research Abroad from the Ad Futura agency, and did his research project at the Institut für Pharmazeutische Chemie, Philipps Universität Marburg in Germany under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Klebe. In 2010 he got one year research grant from the World Federation of Scientists. In April 2011 he successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled ˝Computer-aided design and synthesis of novel heterocyclic inhibitors of Mur ligases˝. His research work involves mainly the design, synthesis and computer-aided drug design of compounds, particularly with potential antibacterial activity. In May 2011 he has started collaborating in the 7th Framework Programme Marex, in which he is involved in the design and synthesis of compounds modulating the activity of voltage-gated sodium channels. He has also been assistant for Pharmaceutical Chemistry 3 and for Design and Synthesis of Drugs on the undergraduate course of pharmacy. In the last years he attended several national and international symposia from the field of drug design and synthesis. |
