Alenka Šmid graduated at the UL - Faculty of Pharmacy in 2005 with a thesis entitled Pharmacogenetic Analysis of Thiopurine S-Methyltransferase in the Slovenian Population under the supervision of prof. dr. Irena Mlinarič-Raščan. After completing her internship at the Francisco Gentil Institute of Oncology in Lisbon, she was first employed in a CRO where she worked in the field of clinical research and pharmacovigilance. Since April 2010 she has been employed as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Her work includes the management and organization of laboratory classes in several subjects (Clinical Biochemistry I and II, Clinical Chemistry, Biomedical Analytics and Cell Biology with Genetics). Her research work focuses on the field of pharmacogenetic research aimed at contributing to understanding the metabolism and toxicity of thiopurine drugs and transferring the acquired knowledge and findings to clinical practice. The title of her doctoral dissertation was Study of Biochemical and Genetic Factors in Individualization of Thiopurine Therapy under the supervision of prof. dr. Irena Mlinarič-Raščan. |
