Matjaž Jeras, M.Pharm, PhD was born in 1958 in Ljubljana. He graduated in Pharmacy (1983) and obtained his PhD degree from the Faculty of Medicine (1995). He was the head of the Tissue Typing Center (1994–2006), the national, EFI (European Federation for Immunogenetics) accredited histocompatibilty testing laboratory at the Blood transfusion Centre of Slovenia (BTC) and in 2006 appointed by the government of the Republic of Slovenia as director of the BTC. In 2010 he moved to the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The main areas of his research are: cellular, transplantation and cancer immunology; imunogenetics and histocompatibillity; cell and tissue engineering; stem cells and cell therapies. At the undergraduate and postgraduate level, Assoc. Prof. Matjaž Jeras is lecturing immunology, cell and tissue engineering, advanced therapies, as well as ethics and legislation in biomedicine.
He is a member of the: European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI); Immunological Society of Slovenia; Cell and Tissue Engineering Society of Slovenia (co-founder); Group of Experts on Transplantation at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia (vice president); Commission for treating genetically modified organisms at the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment; Pharmaceutical Society of Slovenia (president 2004-2007) |
