Borut Božič was born in Vipava in 1959. He was visiting basic and musical school in Ajdovščina, and high school Gimnazija Poljane in Ljubljana. On Faculty for Natural Science and Technology of University of Edvard Kardelj in Ljubljana, he graduated as a pharmacist in 1984. First employed as the production technologist at Medex, then in 1987 as research fellow in Laboratory for immunology Dept. of Rheumatology University Medical Centre in Ljubljana. He got master of science on Faculty of medicine of the University of Ljubljana from field of basic medical knowledgein 1990 and defended doctoral thesis from field of clinical immunology in 1994. He is a pharmacist with a state qualifying examination (1986), with licence for work in laboratory medicine (2007) and the internal auditor for medical laboratories (2007).
He passed the examination after four-year specialisation from medical biochemistry with internationally approved qualification as European specialist of clinical chemistry and laboratorial medicine in 2000. He was trained on Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, on University in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) and in Euroimmun in Lubeck (Germany). Been a guest on Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry University Zagreb (Croatia), on King s College University of London and on Faculty of Medicine University Rijeka (Croatia). Research work is mostly bound to research group of Dept. of Rheumatology University Medical centre in Ljubljana, where he was employed fully by 2006, later supplementary. Main topic is study of mechanisms and etiopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, with emphasis on detailed specificity of antibodies, antigenic recognition and intermolecular interactions in immune system and clinical effectiveness of immunochemical tests.
The member of Chair for clinical biochemistry of Faculty for pharmacy became in 1995, where was employed supplementary from 2001, full from 2006 on. He was elected in an assistant professor in 1998, in an associate professor in 2004 and in a full professor in 2010. He was or is the active teacher on study programs of all of three cycles at Faculty for pharmacy, Faculty of medicine and Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana on objects from field of clinical biochemistry, immunology, autoimmunity, laboratory procedures, clinical algorithms in diagnostics, legislations and bioethics. He was or is occupied by many functions and duties, among others: dean FFA and the member of senate of the University of Ljubljana (2011-forward), the president of academic assembly on FFA (2009–2012), the member of coordination group at Ministry for health for implementation of regulations on laboratorial medicine (2008–forward), the associate dean for study field of FFA (2007-2011), the of head of chair for clinical biochemistry (vicegerent) on FFA (2006), a coordinator for implementation of Bologna programs of laboratorial medicine on FFA (2005–2009), the chairman of team of Ministry of health for preparing contents of regulations on conditions for performance of laboratory medicine (2002-2004), the president of Chamber of laboratory medicine of Slovenia (1996 – 2006), the president of Committee for professional matters of chamber (2006-2015), the member of Commission for specialisations (2006–2011), the member of Commission for register of performers of laboratory medicine 2006-forward), the member of National professional board for laboratory diagnostics(1994 forward, vice-chairman in 2004, a president in 2005), the member of Executive committee of Slovene association for clinical chemistry (2007–2011), the member of Monitoring committee of Slovenia of Immunologic association (2009–forward), the member of subcommittee of IUIS for standardisation and assessment of quality within immunologic diagnostics (2010-forward), the member of editorial board of Farmacevtski vestnik (1998-2002), International Journal of Biomedical Sciences (2006–forward), electronic Journal of International Federation for Clinical Chemistry (2009-forward). In 1984, got Confession of OF for work with youth, in 1990 Award of European association against rheumatism EULAR scholarship award, in 2007 scholarship of Slovene scientific foundation, in 2011 confession of Slovene association for clinical chemistry. |
