Jurij Trontelj was born in 1976 in Ljubljana. In 2002 he earned B.Sc. degree at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana with a thesis titled: Ethical Considerations in Clinical Drug Research and its Regulation in Europe, under the menthorship of prof. Aleš Mrhar and co-menthorship of prof. Jože Balažic.
In 2003, he was awarded with Krka Prize for research paper entitled Mucoadhesion of Chitosan and Polycarbophil Microspheres on the Porcine Urinary Bladder Mucosa, under the mentorship of prof. Marija Bogataj. In January 2003, he became a young researcher at the Department of Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics. His field of expertise is drug metabolism (mainly UDP-glucuronosyltransferases) and bioanalytics with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
In 2007 he defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled Study of Raloxifene Metabolism by Experimental Models with increasing Complexity under the mentorship of prof. Aleš Mrhar. Later that year, he won another Krka Prize for his doctoral thesis.
He participates in practicals at Pharmaceutical Technology II, and Instrumental pharmaceutical analysis and Biomedical analysis.
