For the University of Ljubljana, December represents a special period as we celebrate the anniversary of its foundation. Each year we celebrate the anniversary with the traditional University Week, which this year will begin on 4 December 2017. This year the festive week had marked 98 years of activity of Slovenia's largest university.
The solemn session of the Senate of the University was dedicated to awards of honorary doctorates, honorary senators, and other highest levels recognition awards.
Prof. dr. Hans Uwe Simon, was awarded an honorary doctorate of the University of Ljubljana.

Prof. Dr. Hans-Uwe Simon, MD, is a Professor of Pharmacology, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern, and the Director of the Inselspital Institute of Pharmacology in Bern. He is the leading expert in the area of cell death, apoptosis, and autophagy of eosinophils, and pathologies related to their malfunction. The results of his research are published in the most prestigious journals, including Nature, and Science groups. The exceptional results were ground for his acceptance into the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences.
He is an honest converser, a humanist, and a democrat. His courage and focus on bold projects, and his actual will and strength to see them through are the basis for being entrusted with the numerous academic, research, and administrative tasks and projects at the Faculty and in society.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Uwe Simon is an exemplary lecturer and educator who creatively intertwines research with education. His cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy is multi-directional including the joint organisation of summer schools and exchange of students. He has mentored more than ten MPharm, students so far.
The scientific opus of and his exceptional consideration for the researchers and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy are the foundation for being awarded honorary doctorate of the University of Ljubljana.
