Mitja Kos

Mitja Kos is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is the Head of the Chair of Social Pharmacy and a lecturer of the undergraduate and postgraduate subjects being part of the Faculty programs including social pharmacy, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology and informatics.

After his diploma thesis on the topic of »Pharmacoepidemiologically supported design of pharmaceutical care program for asthma patients« in 1999 he was employed by the Faculty of Pharmacy in Ljubljana. In 2001 he studied and researched pharmacoepidemiology at the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands) under the mentorship of Prof. Bert Leufkens. Mitja defended his thesis on the topic »Extent and Nature of Off- Label Prescribing” in 2005. His mentrhos were Prof. Albert I. Wertheimer (Temple University, USA) and Prof. Aleš Mrhar (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia). Besides activities at the Faculty he was also emloyed as a researcher in the area of mental health at the Institute of Public Health (2005 and 2006). Lately, the focus of his research is the health technology assesment as well as the study of accessibility of new drugs and the provision of information by the pharmacist to the patients. Currently, he is a member of the Health Council to the Ministry of Health of the Republic Slovenia. He is also a member of two commissions at the Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of the Republic Slovenia: one focusing on clinical evaluations of drugs for human use and the other on drug prizes.
