Sjors van Klaveren is an Early Stage Researcher in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie action PhD4Glycodrugs. In the year 2014, he completed his bachelor’s in organic chemistry with a thesis at the University of Leeds in the group of Dr Robin Bon on the synthesis of novel components for bioorthogonal immobilisation of proteins on self-assembled monolayers. Working in the group of Prof. Rob Leurs at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the thesis ‘Optimization of a phthalazinone scaffold synthetic pathway and library synthesis for selective inhibition of Trypanosomal phosphodiesterases’ awarded him a master’s degree in 2017. In his PhD4Glycodrug project under the supervision of Prof. Marko Anderluh at the University of Ljubljana and Prof. Ulf Nilsson at Lund University, he is pursuing the design and synthesis of glycomimetic ligands capable of modulating the functioning of galectin-8.
